SUNBURN GOT YOU DOWN?
Moderation in all things is sage advice especially when it comes to exposure to the sun.
Prevent the damageWear a natural sunscreen which uses a mineral base like zinc oxide. Zinc Oxide deflects the sun’s rays. Some sunscreens have other ingredients like calendula, chamomile, and aloe vera which sooth the skin. Make sure the sunscreen is a “Broad Spectrum” sunscreen protecting against UVB (ultraviolet B radiation) and UVA (ultraviolet A radiation).
Once the Damage is Done
A compress of steeped green tea counteracts the effects of too much sun and protects the skin. Steep the tea for 20 minutes, strain and retain the liquid for use as a compress. Putting the compress in the refrigerator prior to use and applying the cold compress soothes the skin even more. Polyphenols and tannic acid in green tea soothe and heal sunburn, reducing redness and inflammation.
